Back To School!!

I pray that everyone is safe after such an eventful beginning of the week. We will be back to school on Thursday, September 24, 2009. Please see the http://www.cobb.k12.ga.us/index.htm website if additional information is needed.

Reading 3rd Hour/Language Arts 7th Hour-We will continue to work on Unit 13/Lesson 2 in your Language! Interactive textbooks. Students should continue to study words from Spelling Pretest that they didn't spell correctly.

 Homework for Thursday will be to study spelling words for quiz on Friday.

 

ITBS Testing

 

Students will be administered the ITBS test this week. These are a few tips that students should adhere to before testing:

• When you wake up on test day, you should eat a light breakfast. If your stomach is growling, you will not be able to concentrate. If you are full of heavy food, you will be sluggish. 
• When the test begins, start by answering the questions that you already know. Make sure that you fill in the correct space on the answer sheet. Putting an answer one space above or below the correct line will throw off the rest of the test.

• Most important tip is to go to bed early the night before the test. Give your brain as much rest as possible so that it will perform at its best.

3RD HOUR- Reading-What is characterization?  

Defining Characterization
Characterization is the process by which the writer reveals the personality of a character. Characterization is revealed through direct characterization and indirect characterization.
Direct Characterization tells the audience what the personality of the character is.
Example: “The patient boy and quiet girl were both well mannered and did not disobey their mother.”
Explanation: The author is directly telling the audience the personality of these two children. The boy is “patient” and the girl is “quiet.”
Indirect Characterization shows things that reveal the personality of a character.
