THURS FEB 12: Vocab TEST # 14  Joan of Arc p.28-47  In class questions  Review stroy map

FRI FEB 13: Write paragraph in class discussing how Joan of Arc was courageous

LANGUAGE ARTS

MON FEB 9: Begin Island research in media lab Research 3 facts on LAND: plants, animals and climate.

HOMEWORK: WRITE introductory paragraph on island.  Intro sentence, three sentences mentioning land, people, and special features and concluding sentence.


TUES FEB 10: Media lab for research  Research 3 facts on PEOPLE: clothes, homes, sports, etc.

HOMEWORK: COMPLETE paragraph # 2 on LAND. Must be at least 5 sentences with intro sentence, 3 fact sentences, and concluding sentence.  By Wednesday should have introductory paragraph and #2 paragraph complete.

WED FEB 11: Media lab research special features.  This can be VERY CREATIVE!!

HOMEWORK:COMPLETE paragraph # 3 on PEOPLE-at least 5 sentences.

THURS FEB 12: Complete paragraph # 4 in class on SPECIAL FEATURES.

HOMEWORK: Write CONCLUDING paragraph-at least 5 sentences.  Be sure you are CONVINCING me why I want to visit your island!

FRI FEB 13: In class draw map and locate special features, etc.  TURN IN PROJECT with citation sheet, map drawing and 5 paragraph paper -If we run out of time to type will complete for homework.

Week Feb 2nd-6th

READING CLASS

I am Mrs. Estes, the long term sub for Mrs. Jain.  She is out recovering from shoulder surgery.  Though recently clas schedules have been mixed up with conference week, this week will be 'back to normal".

I am trying to follow Mrs. Jain's class format, but will making adjustments as needed.  I will continue with limited homework, but when assigned it is important for students to complete homework AND bring it to class the following day.

Hello!  I am Mrs. Ellen Estes, the long term substitute for Mrs. Jain.  As I am sure your student has mentioned, Mrs.Jain had shoulder surgery and will be recovering for several weeks.  Currently I have required very minimal homework and trying to keep to their "normal class routine". However, with conference week everything has been a bit different. 

I will update this blog For the week beginning Feb 2-6.  I will have all the students have their agenda signed by a parent so that I know they are checking the blog beginning next week!!

This week, we will continue with Newspaper oriented skills. Students will interview various personnel of Pine Mt. on Thursday. You should practice questions for clarity and preciseness.
Students have almost completed a mock unit on Expository writing. This and the next week, students will peer review, edit, and publish theit 5-paragraph essay. Spelling test is on Friday.

We have started a new unit on Newspaper studies. The terminology of newspapers will be used as the vocabulary words of the week. Test will be on Tuesday.

November 17-21

This week, We will conclude our novel study Number the Stars. Students' participation was full of enthusiasm,and their feed back has been very thought provoking.
Following are the week's spelling words: greet, pizza, weak, breathe, freeze, piano, speech, ski, increase, defeat, reason, needle, steep, sheet, wheat, agree, degree, degree, and beneath. Test will be on Thursday.

We will continue to read the novel. A class set will be provided to finish Chapter 7 on Tuesday. A unit test for ch. 5-7 will be on Friday. Vocabulary words of the week are: persecution, congregation, exasperation, distort, humorous, defiant. Test is scheduled for coming Monday.
