Attention- KMHS 9th Grade Lit. Students!

The department chair of the English department at KMHS has just released important information regarding your summer reading requirements for 9th grade lit. class.

Please go to this link:

http://kmhs.typepad.com/kmhs_english_summer_readi/

You then go to the right screen and find your specific course title "Ninth Grade Literature."

Read directions for title selection, reading log and signature requirements, and preparation for presentation to follow once class begins.

Remenber, you will remain a freshman until you pass ninth grade literature. I strongly advise that you enter the class prepared to succeed.

The site will be updated throughout the summer, so visit this regularly.

I would also suggest that you familiarize yourself the school's policy for paper submission formatting, also detailed through this link.

Happy summer reading!

Progress Report Information

Due to CRCT testing next week, our schedule will be different.  Students will be given progress reports for classes on Thursday and Friday.  Please expect a green sheet of paper with your child's grades from Thursday's classes that evening. The classes that meet Friday will be sending those grades to you on a blue sheet of paper.  Please   make sure your parents see and sign these and return them to your homeroom  teacher.

You're Hired!

This has been a very exciting unit of study.  Our professional communication and technical writing studies are culminating this week with our mock interviews.  These are being conducted Thursday and Friday during Language Arts classes.  We are so fortunate to have had so much support from within our building and community.  Many people have been generous with time and talent to make this happen.

During interviews, classes will be viewing lessons pertaining to career choices. Ms. Settles has made this possible.
Remember, in addition to the impact made by your complete application and resume, the interviewers will be assessing you in the areas of appearance, mannerisms and body language, speaking skills, enthusiasm and attentiveness.

Writing Rocks!

We continue to diligently complete our lessons pertaining to technical writing and professional communication.  How fortunate we are to have such resources within our own building.  Ms. Cristy, our technology teacher delivered so much to you in our collaborative sessions Wednesday.   I hope you take the information to heart and begin to contemplate your college applications.

Dr. Davis spoke to you about the importance of professional delivery and communication.

Your scores from the state writing assessment  were sent home with report cards.  Please save these and reflect on the diagnostic suggestions these provide. This information is a very useful tool that will enable you to improve your writing.  This score is a relevant predictor of your performance on the writing portion of your high school exit exams.  If you have weaknesses, pledge to yourself that you will do all  that you are able to do to strengthen your skills.

Remember that you are allowed to work on  the Skills Tutor program from home.

I will be taking up the Grammar and Writing texts which were issued to you last fall.  These were to have been stored at your home all year.  Make sure you know where this book is because I will begin checking these in during the first week of May.

Your portfolios will be sent home late in May.

Good Times

Looking forward to so many exciting things all around this season.

Our lessons are going to be great.  While we review the detailed aspects of technical writing, we will be having guest speakers and lessons that are going to prepare you for the business world.

Mr. Pino only has a little more time with us. We will miss him.  We wish him well as he prepares to become a teacher!  Thank you classes for making him have such a positive experience with you.
