Reward Movie

The 8th grade tied the 6th grade in the canned food drive for the holiday season.  On Friday, we will be rewarded with the movie, "National Treasure 2."  It also happens to tie into our Social Studies curriculum.

Consent forms were sent home with 5th hour classes on Tuesday and they  need to be returned before viewing the movie.  You can download a copy of this form below.

Week 18, December 15-19

Only FIVE more days left!  We can do it!

This week in Georgia Studies we will study for and take the Government Benchmark test.  Finally, we will wrap up our unit by watching the American classic, "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington."  It is about one man's effect on American politics and has been called "culturally and historically significant."

AC Students will turn in their completed Anchor Packets on Monday.

In Language Arts, we will finish the lesson we started on Friday about the 5 paragraph method for expository writing.  Then we will read Truman Capote's "A Christmas Memory" while completing a guided reading organizer.  Finally, we will watch the original 1966 adaptation of the story.   This made-for-TV movie is an artful recollection of Capote's youth in the rural South during the Depression.

Week 17, December 8-12

On Tuesday the 8th grade will have our mock writing assessment to help prepare for the state assessment in January.  Students will have 90 minutes to write a thoughtful, well-developed response to a standardized prompt.  Homeroom will be extended for this purpose and students should bring a blue or black pen to class.

This week in Georgia Studies we will wrap up our state government unit.  We will review U.S. government and complete a study guide before testing.  The test over chapters 14 and 15 will be on Friday.

AC students will have Anchor Checkpoint 3 on Wednesday for which a total of 13 activities will be due.  The completed packet is due on Monday, December 15th and is worth a project grade.

In Language Arts, we will continue improving our ability to write effective sentences.  Congratulations to Ashley D. for winning the school Spelling Bee!  Let's wish her well as she goes on to represent us in the county bee at KMHS in January.
