Week 26, February 23-27

This week in Georgia Studies we will take the multiple choice portion of the chapter 7 test on Monday.  Then we will begin a 5-week unit on Georgia's involvement in the Civil War.  Students will gain understanding of key events in the Civil War including Antietam, the Emancipation Proclamation, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, the Union blockade of Georgia's coast, Sherman's Atlanta Campaign, Sherman's March to the Sea, and Andersonville.  This week we will start on chapter 8 with vocabulary, guided readings, and notes.

In Language Arts we have finished our comparison of the ballet and Bram Stoker versions of Dracula.  We wrote thank you notes to Mrs. Hooper for organizing the field trip, which tie into the technical writing unit.  This week we will continue developing skills which will help our students be more successful in their future jobs including how to read a pay stub, understanding payroll deductions, and appropriate business communication skills. 

Week 25, February 17-20

Monday is a teacher work day.
Progress reports go home Tuesday.

This week in Georgia Studies, the Storyboard Project is due in 4th and 7th hours on Tuesday.  All students will wrap up the Antebellum Period and begin preparing for the chapter 7 test.  We will complete the essential questions packet, study guide, and review.  Test essay questions will be completed in class on Friday and the multiple choice portion will be on Monday, the 23rd. 

Language Arts students will watch Bram Stoker's Dracula on Tuesday and Wednesday before comparing/contrasting it to the play we read last week.

Week 24, February 9-13

This week in Georgia Studies, 4th and 7th hour students will continue creating their antebellum storyboard projects.  Details were given in class on Friday.  This project is worth a test grade and will be due on Tuesday, the 17th.  If it is turned in on Friday, February 13th, 5 bonus points will be awarded. 

AC Georgia Studies students will spend Monday in the computer lab putting finishing touches on their Westward Expansion/Antebellum Period choice board project, which is due on Wednesday. 

We are all looking forward to seeing a performance of Dracula on Thursday at Cobb Energy Center.  Language Arts students will finish reading an adapted version of the play in class to prepare for the field trip.  We will compare and contrast the two versions for deeper understanding.

Week 23 - February 2-6

This week in Georgia Studies we will...

• Finish "Race to Freedom" and make character education connections.
• Complete a "Nation Divided" packet and graphic organizer.
• Read the remainder of chapter 7 with guided readings.
• Begin the Antebellum Storyboard project (due 2/13.)

AC students will also work on their choice board project in class on Wednesday through Friday (due 2/11.)

Language Arts students will begin our technical writing unit, which will focus on real-world job responsibilities, reading a pay stub, writing professional emails, resumes, cover letters, and interview skills.
