Wednesday, 9/30

7th and 8th grades will have Open House tomorrow at 7:00 pm.  We hope you can attend :)

LA - Students illustrated a variety of idioms today.  All work was collected before dismissal.
AC LA - Students continue to work in learning centers.  Any unfinished daily work is homework.

SS - Finished guided reading for 5.2 and 5.3.  Please use the attached word bank to prepare for tomorrow's quiz.
AC SS - Finish guided reading 2 and 3, study for the quiz, and keep in mind that the current event is due Friday.

Tuesday, 9/28

LA - We worked on personification, similes, and metaphors.  Students should complete the Dr. Seuss poem that was started today.
AC LA - We worked in learning centers again today.  Students should finish the activities they began in class if they have not already been turned in.  Keep in mind that your book report project due dates are approaching.

SS - Students should finish drawing the borders of the colonies and coloring them based on their location.
AC SS - Students took a quiz on the colonies' characteristics.  The next current event is due Friday.

Monday, 9/28

LA - Students took notes on figurative language vocabulary and complete a worksheet that will be collected tomorrow.  Download Figurative Language Vocabulary
AC LA - Students finished the first round of expository learning centers.  Tomorrow we will begin a new rotation including figurative language activities and finishing the writing portion of the webquest.

SS - Today we began chapter 5 - Georgia in Revolution.  Students should finish the guided reading for section 5.1
AC SS - Colonization advertisements were collected today.  Students read the first section of chapter 5 while completing a guided reading sheet.  The next current event was assigned today and will be due on Friday.  Please note that it is different than the current event forms we have been working on thus far.

Friday, 9/25

LA - Students should finish the writing choice board that was started in class.
AC LA - We are still working in learning centers.  The only homework for this weekend is to continue making progress toward independent book report deadlines.

SS - We tested chapter 4 today and began defining key vocabulary terms for chapter 5, Georgia in Revolution.  Vocabulary is due Monday.
AC SS - Students should finish the vocabulary worksheet and the Colonization Advertisements; both are due Monday.

Thursday, 9/24

LA - We practiced summarizing informational articles.  Students should finished writing 5 fill-in questions and a summarizing "Tweet" using between 120 and 140 characters.
AC LA - We are working in Learning Centers this week, so there will be no homework other than to continue making progress toward book report deadlines.

SS - The chapter 4 test will be on Friday.  Students should finish the chapter review and use the study guide and essential questions packet to prepare.
AC SS - Students were quizzed on Colonization information before working on the study guide.  Test Friday.

Friday, 9/18

LA - Write 10 True/False questions with answers based on the Expository guidelines sheet passed out in class today.  You must use complete sentences.
AC LA - Continue making progress toward your book report project deadline.

SS - Finish Guided Reading 4.4
AC SS - No homework.  Students began a colonization project today; they will have time to work on it in class Monday.  Due Tuesday.

Thursday, 9/17

LA - Students took a quiz over "Kabul's Singing Sensation" and related vocabulary.  They began writing a chronological description of a family tradition.  This should be finished at home.
AC LA - Students took a quiz and read their "Nonsensical Traditions" papers aloud.  They should write 10 true/false questions about the information on the expository writing handout received in class.

SS - Today is Constitution Day!  We watched a video and participated in a Constitution activity.
AC SS - Students turned in guided reading 4.3 and 4.3 and participated in the Constitution activities.  Current events #3 is due tomorrow.

Wednesday, 9/16

Progress reports went home today.  Please have the yellow form signed and return it to your homeroom teacher on Thursday.  You may keep the detailed report for your records.

LA - Today we finished reading comprehension and vocabulary for "Kabul's Singing Sensation."  There will be a quiz on it tomorrow.  We also started writing about a family tradition in chronological order.  Continue recording everything you read on the reading log.  Remember... it's just 6 pages a day :)
AC LA - Students should finish the Family Tradition writing assignment.  You must have it finished to participate in class on Thursday.  Download AC Expository Traditions

SS - Today we learned about the James Oglethorpe's role in the colonization of Georgia.  Students should finish the guided reading and "Finding the Main Idea" questions.
AC SS - Finish the guided readings for 4.3 and 4.4.  Current Events #3 is due Friday.

Tuesday, 9/15

Progress reports go home tomorrow!

LA - No homework.  Tomorrow we will finish reading, comprehension, and vocabulary for "Kabul's Singing Sensation" and we will take a quiz.
AC LA - Quiz tomorrow over story and vocab.  Continue working on book report projects.
SS - Today we began chapter 4, Georgia's Colonization.  Finish guided reading for sections 1 and 2.
AC SS - Same as above.
