Friday, 10/30

LA - Today we began our author research project.  We will be in the Media Center throughout next week.  No homework this weekend.
AC LA - If you'd like to get a jump start on researching your author, look at a few web sites over the weekend so you can hit the ground running on Monday.  Keep in mind that you must write 15 questions and answers, as well as create a digital poster.  Friday is the due date!  Also, continue working on your 2nd quarter author letter.

SS - Quiz grades will be posted tonight.  Finish the political cartoon that was started in class.
AC SS - Finish the political cartoon if you did not do so in class.  Keep making progress on your anchor packet. 

Thursday, 10/29

LA - Today Mrs. Harris introduced us to our research unit and all of the resources that are available to us.  We will be in the Media Center beginning tomorrow.  For homework, read the instruction packet.
AC LA - We were introduced to the AC version of the 8th grade research project.  Students will use the FAQ format that is used at the high school level.  We will be in the media center through next Friday.  Read the instruction packet tonight.

SS - Finish the chapter 14 review and study for tomorrow's quiz.
AC SS - Today we did a government vocabulary word splash and had a brief knowledge check.  There will be a quiz tomorrow.

Wednesday, 10/28

LA - No homework.
AC LA - No homework.  Continue making progress toward your reading goal.  Remember that Author Letters are due 12/1

SS - Finish the Judicial Branch organizer.
AC SS - Finish the Judicial Branch organizer if you did not do so in class.  Also, keep working on your Anchor Packets.  There will be a check point in the near future.

Tuesday, 10/27

Remember to return your field trip permission forms and money!

LA - Today we listened to a reading of Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" and began rewriting the story from the point of view of another character.  We will finish it in class tomorrow.
AC LA - Finish writing your point of view paper for "The Tell-Tale Heart".  We will share them in class tomorrow.

SS - Finish the Executive Branch worksheet that was started in class today.
AC SS - Finish the Executive Branch worksheet.  Bring your anchor packet to class everyday in case you finish your daily work early.  There will be a check point soon, so you should be making some progress... don't procrastinate!

Friday

LA - Finish the questions packet to began today.  Due Tuesday.
AC LA - Finish the questions for "Us and Them," "The Hitchhiker," and sentence structure review.  Due Tuesday.  Also, keep making progress toward your reading goal.

SS - Finish the Bill of Rights questions.
AC SS - Finish the Bill of Rights questions and the Shays' Rebellion writing assignment.

Monday

LA - No homework.
AC LA - No new homework.

SS - Finish the Legislative Branch graphic organizer.
AC SS - Finish the Legislative Branch sheet and work on your anchor packet.

Thursday, 10/22

LA - Today we read "Us and Them" by David Sedaris and began answering higher order thinking questions in the margins of the workbook pages.  Students should bring the workbook to class again tomorrow to finish the questions.
AC LA - We read "Us and Them" and discussed the author's use of irony and tone.  Bring a book to read tomorrow in case you finish the new assignment early.

SS - We discussed the weakness in the articles of confederation and began a Preamble booklet, which requires the students to write the words in each phrase in their own words.  It will be due on Tuesday.
AC SS - Students made the Preamble booklet by translating the ideas into their own words and applying them to how government impacts our lives today.  If it was not finished today, it may be submitted on Tuesday.

Tuesday, 10/20

Tomorrow is the practice Middle Grades Writing Assessment.  We will test for 90 minutes in homeroom.  Please bring pencils, a blue or black pen, and something to read if you happen to finish early.  After testing, we will go to 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th periods.  Also, please remember that Wednesday is an early release day!

LA - Finish the sensory details worksheet.
AC LA - Finish writing sensory details and continue making progress on your author letter project.

SS - Today we began chapter 14.  Finish the guided reading for section 1.  It will be due on Thursday.
AC SS - Today we took the benchmark 1 test and discussed weaknesses in the Articles of Confederation and how the young nation was organized by our founding fathers.  Do guided reading 14.1 for homework.

Friday, 10/16

Report cards went home with students today.  On Monday, please return the yellow card and the CRCT letter signed.

LA - We practiced transferring brainstormed information onto a graphic organizer to make writing an essay more streamlined.  Techniques for writing strong thesis statements, attention getters, transitions, topic sentences, and clinchers were reviewed.  No homework.
AC LA - Students created an ornament representing each part of an essay.  No homework.

SS - Today we tested chapter 5.  Scores will be posted this evening.  Use the study guide to prepare for the benchmark test, which will be on Monday.
AC SS - No homework.  Enjoy your weekend!  We will begin our study of the federal government next week.

Thursday, 10/15

Report cards will be sent home tomorrow.

LA - Brainstorm 3 places you'd like to go and 4 reasons why for each.
AC LA - Finish filling in the 5 paragraph organizer that was started in class.

SS - Finish the chapter 5 review and use the study guide to prepare for tomorrow's test.
AC SS - The green current event activity is due tomorrow.  Finish the review and study for the test!

Wednesday, 10/14

Report cards will be sent home on Friday!

LA - We worked on distinguishing between strong and weak conclusions and unity/coherence in writing. 
AC LA - Organizational patterns in writing were discussed and identified.  Then we listened to a reading of "Oh, The Places you'll Go!" by Dr. Seuss, made text-self connections and began brainstorming ideas about where we'd like to go(concrete and abstract).  Tomorrow we will use the brainstorm to write parts of an essay.  All book report projects must be submitted by Friday.

SS - Finish the study guide for chapter 5.  Test Friday.
AC SS - Finish the study guide and essay questions.  Current event due on Friday and test.
