This is the theme for the stories we are currently reading. We are working on nonfiction and have just finished Surtsey, a book about the newest island, which correlates with the science curriculum.

Students may come in at 8:15 A. M. daily to work on my skills. Please go into Reading Comprehension A. This may also be accessed from home. I give extra credit to students who spend more than the average time working on skills. This is great preparation for the CRCT test coming up.

Students are reading stories from the first theme in the Houghton Mifflin textbook entitled Triumphs. These textbooks can not be taken home.
The Georgia Standards for reading are divided up into three major sections: Comprehension, Vocabulary, and Fluency. Students also have standards for reading across the curriculum: 1,000,000 words, discussion, vocabulary, and content. Parents are welcome to go to the county website to view the exact wording of the reading standards.
All students should have received and had the syllabus signed by a parent. The syllabus should remain in the students' binder. I will check to see they have been signed but not collect them.

Students can earn extra credit and practice for the CRCT test if they spend more than the average time given in the classroom. Some time is required and students are provided with laptops and opportunities during the school day to work on this site.
