We are ending our suspense mini-unit with an analysis of Michael Jackson's "Thriller." We will look at the lyrics with and without descriptive words - making a compare/contrast chart. The use of descriptive language is important to our writing, and understanding the difference it makes is essential to improvement. Have a great weekend!
We will complete our figurative language terms 2 with a quiz in class today. Continuing with suspense, we will read and discuss "The Tell Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe. The discussion will include information on the life of the author as well as the elements of suspense he uses in his writing.
We have begun our suspense mini unit with the analyzation of the short story, "The Monkey's Paw." We will be looking at the ways authors use words to create mood. We are also continuing with the figurative langauge terms part 2. The Quiz over these terms will be Thursday, 10/29.
We are continuing to explore figurative language - identifying the different types and locating them in writing samples. Today we chose a random slip of paper and created a poster giving the definition, example, and picture of the type of figurative language on the slip. We will review the definitions and practice for a quiz on the terms. The quiz will be Thursday 10/15/09.
