Technical Writing Continues

We have now successfully completed our resumes, business cover letters, and job applications. We are reviewing frequently asked interview questions in preparation for our mock job interviews.  Ask your students about the "job" they have applied for.  CRCT practice takes place every day, with a total concentration twice a week.  In addition, we continue to practice our writing skills with a new software, essayscorer.com.

CRCT Preparation

As we continue through our technical writing unit this month, I want to stress the importance of preparation for the CRCT.  Research shows that practicing in the same format as the test is an excellent way to ensure success.  The county has paid for access to the following websites so that this practice is possible:  www.usatestprep.com and www.myskillstutor.com.  We have logged on at school, so everyone should have no problem getting to the sites.  While we review at school, it is very important that you also make time after school to prepare for the CRCT. 

Technical Writing

For the  month of March we will concentrate on technical writing.  Our unit involves the real life skills of resumes, business letters, and job applications.  We will have a seminar speaker each Tuesday giving us examples of how writing skills are used in the workplace.  Students are completing a portfolio that will culminate in a authentic job interview.  In addition, we continue to review grammar for the CRCT.
