The Rumors are True.....

WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY IN 8TH GRADE!!!!

I know there have been rumblings about this trip and I can now confirm. The 8th grade band, orchestra, and chorus are planning to travel together the week before spring break. More deatils will be coming home very soon and I look forward to a great trip with wonderful students and supportive parents.

Please wait until the literature comes home about the trip to begin asking questions. I appreciate everyone be as excited as we are. I will post more infomation as we begin to get it.

FALL SEMESTER SYLLABUS

 

 

School Goal

Students at

Pine

Mountain

Middle School

will perform at or above grade level in math.

 

I.  During this course, the student will:

 

              A. Learn basic and intermediate skills in the chorus classroom such as  correct vocal production, singing posture and sight singing.

 

              B.  Learn basic musical knowledge such as note reading, notation, music history and correlation of music with other disciplines.

 

 

II.  Grading System

 

              40%  Class Participation

              20%  Class work

              40% Tests

             

 

 

III.  Required materials (These should be brought daily.)

 

            A.  ½ inch 3 ring binder with clear plastic front (1 inch WILL NOT work)

            B.  A spiral bound notebook for journals

            C.  A pencil each day

            D. All class notes and music

B.     Learn to appreciate music of both American and Non-American Cultures.

            55% Class work

45% Projects

           

             

 

 

III.  Required materials (These should be brought daily.)

 

            A.  A Folder to keep materials in.

            B.  A pencil each day

            C. All class notes and music

I am so looking forward to a new and exciting year here at Pine Mountain. I hope each of you had a great summer! Mine was filled from start to finish with exciting adventures both here and far away.

As the new school year approaches please remember to look over your handbook. Parents and students alike shoudl know the expectations of both chorus and music appreciation classes. I have attached the chorus handbook. for any questions regarding something in the handbook please feel free to contact me at any time and I will be thrilled to discuss it with you.

PERFORMING ARTS

BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT PLAN

 

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

 

1.                  Be prompt. (on time or have a tardy pass)

2.                  Be prepared. (instrument, music and pencil)

3.                  Be polite. (respectful of everyone’s feelings and property)

4.                  Be productive.  (participate positively in class)

5.                  Be aware. (all school rules are in effect)

 

 

CONSEQUENCES

 

          2 Citations:  Behavior Essay

            3 Citations:  Parent Contact

            4 Citations:  Detention

            5 Citations:  Administrative Referral

 

REDEMPTION PLAN

 

Students may set up an individual redemption contract with their performing arts teacher.

 

CONDUCT GRADES

 

Conduct grades will be determined each nine weeks by the number of citations a student receives during the nine week grading period.

 

0 – 2 Citations:  Satisfactory

3 – 4 Citations:  Needs Improvement

5+     Citations:  Unsatisfactory
