Race to the finish line!!!!

Everyone is excited about the end of the school year!!!  (Even the teachers are excited!)  What we need to remember is that class isn't over yet!  We still have work to do.

1st period reading students are working on a novel they have chosen.  These novels will provide the foundation for the projects that will be the final grade for this semester.  Directions should be on the blog from last week.  In will accept these from Thursday May 14- Monday May 18.  These are a large portion of their grade for this semester.  The projects I've seem so far are AWESOME!  I'm proud of all the extra work this class does!  They are so creative!

1st period is also working on a vocabulary unit. No test date has been set.

2nd and 6th periods have a test on Wednesday!  They need to focus their study efforts on the guide they were provided with in class on Friday.

3rd and 7th periods are working to finish Bearstone by WIll Hobbs.  7th periods Theme projects are due Tuesday.
3rd period has been working on this project in class.

Feel free to email if you have any questions!  We have a busy week ahead.

Week at a glance... April 27- May 1

1st period reading will be doing a novel unit on books of their own choosing.  These books should be 150 pages in length or longer, and should NOT have been made into a movie.  Students should be keeping a log while they read, and we will be discussing options for final projects.  We will also be working on a vocabulary unit from book C.

3rd and 7th period reading just started a book by Will Hobbs entitled Bearstone.  We will be reading 1-2 chapters a day and completing written responses based on the reading.  We will also have a final project based on this book.  Students will receive a list of potential projects next week.

Social Studies students will continue to study South-East Asia, and will focus on China this week.  We will be working in the textbook this week.

Week at a glance... April 20-24

This week we will be taking the CRCT test!  The reading test is Tuesday, and I'm hoping everyone will come well-rested and ready Tuesday morning.  Please be sure to be on time!  If you are late you will not be admitted to the classroom.  Bring a book- just in case you finish early! My preference would be for you to use extra time to review your answers!

I just wanted to tell you all know how proud I am of my students! The skills reviews of the past 2 weeks have been HARD WORK! I'm especially proud of the students that came early to work on the items they missed.  I know that extra effort will pay-off for you in the coming week!  If anyone would like to work on those skills at home, you can access several tests at www.georgiaoas.org.  You should have the information in your adgenda. If you've lost he password you can email me during the weekend and evening.

With regard to homework, take this week off and we will resume the reading log when testing is finished! Social Studies students may finish classwork if they need to, but I do not plan to assign homework this week.

Reading students will be working on CRCT warm-ups the first half of each class period.  We continue to look for patterns in testing, and to work on reviewing skills in isolation.  Students should be reading 5 nights a week for 30 minutes.

Social Studies students have a test Monday over religions of South-East Asia.  They should study their yellow study guides tonight!  Tuesday we will look at graphs that display information about the the basic terms we have covered: life-expectancy, infant mortality, literacy... and many more!  We will look at different forms of government Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Many GREAT reading projects have still not been claimed!!!!! Please see me if your project grade does not come-up on I-parent!

Week at a glance... March 23-27

It's hard to believe that we have 2 short weeks left before Spring Break!!!!

We will be spending this week working on reviewing the reading skills and terms we've studied this year.  Next week we'll talk about reading strategies.

Wednesday I'll be collecting READING LOGS!  I've had many questions about these logs.  We are keeping them on notebook paper.  Some people write a summary of what they have read.  While this is not required, I will give extra points as a bonus for this.  I'd like to thank parents in advance for not signing these logs if you know your child hasn't read.  Your support of this assignment is essential!  I appreciate all the thoughtful questions you've asked about this assignment.  If for some reason your child has not been keeping a log, please let me know.  We'll need to discuss something they can do to earn these points and avoid a zero on a major assignment.

Social Studies-
We will continue our 'mad-dash' through Asia this week.  We'll have a political map quiz on Tuesday. We will only be covering the countries that were in color on your map.

By Wednesday we should have completed our brown religion sheet covering the four major religions of this region.  We will review this material Thursday and have a quiz on Friday.  I'll be looking for basic information.
