Have any extra time for Social studies?

Anyone wishing to take the first test over is invited to tutoring Wednesday and Thursday at 8:30.  The test is Friday at 8:30.  You may not retake the test without attending tutoring both days.  You might want to reread chapters 1 and 2 over the long weekend.  Your study guides are also a great review of the material you'll find on the test.

Social Studies Quiz on Friday!

Social Studies classes will be taking a quiz Friday over pages 419-422.  We continue our unit on the origins of Middle Eastern culture for 2 more weeks.  The bonus will be to name the four imaginary lines we've studies during our map skills unit.

Reading students are reminded to read nightly!

Open House

Please join us for the Open House this Thursday at 6:30!  We will begin in the theater, then move to the classrooms.  I'm very excited about meeting the parents of my students!  Hope to see you Thursday.

Start the week off right!

This week in reading, we will be working on plot structure as we continue to study the short story.  Students are reminded to bring their interactive notebooks each day.   We will begin class daily with a reading warm-up designed to improve comprehension, but the BEST way to improve your reading skills is to READ!  Students are encouraged to read at home at least 20 minutes each night. 

Social Studies students will continue to work on map skills as we study the Middle East.  Students will need color pencils during map work.

Getting Ready for Monday

Students in Social Studies will begin a unit on the origins of Middle Eastern culture this week. Try using your newly acquired map skills to locate the following: Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Red Sea, and Persian Gulf. We'll be working with both political maps and physical maps in class on Monday! Our unit vocabulary will include: Abraham, Judaism, Christianity, Muhammad, Islam, Muslim, and Qur'an.

Fun Reading Friday was a nice way to end the week! I hope that's a practice we can continue. Reading students will be doing warm-ups with a new reading text on Monday. We will be continuing a unit on the short story, as well. Have a great weekend, and don't forget to bring your interactive notebooks APPROPRIATELY decorated on Monday. :) I think you'll enjoy the things we have planned!

GREAT JOB ON YOUR TEST!

Seventh graders have completed a unit on map skills in Social Studies.  They did an amazing job!  On Monday, we will begin a three week study on the origins of Middle Eastern culture.  Over the weekend I will post our unit vocabulary as well as links to sites I've used to find information.  Have a wonderful weekend, and don't forget your interactive notebooks on Monday!
