Social Studies students ACE map test!

I've just finished updating i-cue with the grades from the map test.  I'm very pleased with everyones hard work!  Today we completed the chapter 15 exam.  I'll finish grading those exams in the morning, and try to post the grades in the afternoon. Each test I give is taken directly from the study guides.  A few students have already asked to retake this exam. I will make this available for students who come to class Tuesday with signed copies of today's test. Students will not be allowed to retest unless these tests are signed.  Please discuss this test with your student. The unit we've just finished was very challenging.  The retest will be different than the original test, but will cover the same material.

Social Studies projects are due Wednesday!  Please plan to bring them in Tuesday if possible.  There is a penalty for turning these in late, and I'd hate to see anyone's hard work (and high score) diminished due to this!

Reading students will be tested over personification, simile, and metaphor on Thursday.  Today we checked interactive notebooks to confirm that everyone had both definitions and examples. We finished our testing to determine reading levels, and plan to begin reading logs in two weeks.  Nightly reading is the best way to reinforce the skills we learn in class each day!  I look forward to explaining this program in greater detail in the coming weeks. Several students have mentioned their desire to begin early! That's always nice to hear!

Progress Reports went home today!

TESTING DATES!

This Friday, Social Studies students will be testing over our Middle East maps. Be prepared to label those blank maps! Study guides for the chapter 15 tests will be completed on Friday, and our chapter 15 exam will be Monday. I've been so impressed with the projects that students are submitting! Today was the last day to turn the maps in early for extra credit. Students certainly took advantage of the offer! Please be sure to have all projects in by this Wednesday, the 24th. After that date they will only receive partial credit.

Reading students are doing a wonderful job with our poetry unit! We will be modifying our 'Fun Friday' activities this week with 'Idiom Mania'. I've asked that they bring their color pencils and markers that day.
Reading students completed testing on the 10th. We will begin a special reading program in two weeks. Students interested in getting an early start should keep an eye on the blog! I'll post all the details this weekend.

Everyone is excited about the pep rally Friday!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful week. Reading classes start a new unit Monday.  We will be doing POETRY WARM-UPS instead of our usual warm-ups, and begin a book entitled Between the Dragon and the Eagle.  Next week midterm reports will go home.  Social Studies students should use some time this weekend to work on their projects.  Remember!  If you finish early you can turn it in for a seven point bonus on the grade.  The due date is 9/24, and the bonus offer ends the 17th!  I know they will be GREAT, and can't wait to see what you can do !

Social Studies students did an amazing job on tests!

I'm celebrating because students did great work on mastering the material from our last unit! Thanks to all parents who brought their children in early for tutoring. I know the children will benefit from this!

We have a project for Social Studies that students will receive on Wednesday. It will require them to use all they've learned about maps and the Middle East. I'm excited to see what they can do! Parents please be looking for this information on Wednesday night. I'll also try to place it on the blog.

Reading students continue to impress me with their interest in reading outside of class. Many students have been researching the topics we cover in class on YouTube and the internet. They've found some very interesting things. If your children are interested in doing extra work on the internet, I'd like to encourage you to go to these sites with them. It's great when students do extra work!
Our next unit will be a study of poetry and related term. Reading students will be completing a project on poetry over the next two weeks. Requirements for this project will come home Friday.

Retesting Friday

Our Friday retest of chapters 1 &2 will begin at 8:30.  Please remember that it is only for those who attended tutoring both days.  This test will include: 

      The five fields of learning that make-up Social Studies

      Three forms of government (limited, unlimited, and totalitarian)

      Wegener's theory and Pangaea

      The five themes of geography

      migration, pushes and pulls

      Levels of development (three indicators)

Study hard!  I expect everyone to do well on this test!
