This week in Reading we will be working on vocabulary words with Greek and Latin roots. The students received their list of words on Thursday. They will NOT be receiving a packet this week! Instead, they will be creating their own packets. When I take these packets up on Friday, they should include: word list and definitions, sentences, synonyms and antonyms, a handout, and a passage using 7 words. I'm hoping this week will be a nice contrast to the preprinted vocabulary! Each student will have created their own unique study guide. I'll collect these on Friday, before we begin the test.
Next weeks vocabulary activities will look at words as building blocks. We will continue to use the root words we are currently working with (pan, cred, and bene), and play with prefixes and suffixes that alter a words meaning.
PLEASE remember that students should be reading a minimum of 30 minutes a night 5 nights a week! They should also be keeping a log. This log should contain the date, the book's title, and the pages read. This log should be kept on notebook paper
Social Studies students will continue to study Africa. We are looking at economic terms, and discussing how the continent of Africa is dealing with the economic issues it faces. We will compare and contrast the economic concerns of the different countries in Africa. We will be working on a computer project covering this topic on both Thursday and Friday.
Tuesday we will be working on an assignment and watching the President's Inauguration!
Enjoy Monday with your family!
