Peek of the Week: September 22-26, 2008

Study Skills: This week we will continue our work with The Tale of Despereaux.  We will also begin a simple unit on foreshadowing with both writing and reading.  Foreshadowing is the use of hints or clues to suggest what will happen later in the story.

This week's homework assignment will require you to find definitions and reread portions of the story.  These assignments can not be "hurried through". As always, you have a week to complete your all homework.  Take advantage of your time. Please start early so that you can do a few questions each night.

Reading: Some members of our reading class will be out testing this week and we will have some visitors from other reading classes.  We will work on poetry during this week.  Next week, we will go back to Matilda and Lon Po Po.

Peek of the Week: September 15-19, 2008

Study Skills : This week we are continuing with The Tale of Despereaux chapters one through four.  We will complete vocabulary and comprehension activities.  You will also have time on Thursday to work on your project for Mrs. Sanford's social studies class. (graphic-storms.typepad.com)

Reading: This week we will finish our "My Connections" text comparisons using the story Little Red Riding Hood. We will also begin our pre-reading activities for our next story, Lon Po Po by Ed Young.  Next week some reading students will miss class due to I.T.B.S. testing.  So, we will begin Lon Po Po during the week of Sept. 29 - Oct. 3.  (graphic-  squidoo.com)

Study Skills:  This week we will begin our pre-reading activities for the The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo.  We will work on text  comparisons.  Ask your child about comparing "text to self", "text to world", and "text to text".  Students-please remember to bring your copy of the book to class each day. Reading: This week we will continue working on our story, Little Red Riding Hood the traditional version. We will continue with our teacher read-aloud, Matilda by Roald Dahl.  Students- Remember to bring your copy of the story each day and study your vocabulary words every night.  There will be a test next week on each story (Matilda- only the first 3 chapters).  I have added the homework which is due Friday, September 12, in case you lose the copy I passed out last Thursday.  Download september_13_reading_homework.doc   (graphics- thepine-apple.blogspot.com)
