Peek of the Week - January 20 -23, 2009

Monday, January 19,  we take a pause to remember and reflect upon the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Following Monday's commerative holiday in his honor, we will embark upon a historic moment history as the first African American president will be inaugurated.  Homework assignments for both reading and social studies will consist of vocabulary and writing assignments related to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the inauguration of our 44th president, Barack Obama.

Peek of the Week for January 12 - 16, 2008

Study Skills: This week we will be working on the writing process: using a graphic organizer, writing a rough draft, editing a rough draft and writing a final copy.  This week's homework is comprised of questions from earlier chapters in the book, The Tale of Despereaux.  image:increaseyourranking.com

Social Studies: We are continuing our Georgia Study unit.  This week's focus is Eli Whitney's cotton gin and its influence on slavery, as well as the Cherokee Native American's Trail of Tears. There will be a test on Wednesday, January 15.  Homework: Study for Friday's test using notes from class.

Language Arts: We are beginning a more in depth study of nouns this week.  We will differetiate singualar and plural, common and proper, and concrete and abstract nouns.  Homework: Nouns Test on Friday, January 16.

Reading: We are still reading the nonfictional text, Bats.  We will continue working on differentiating between facts and opinions.  Homework: Reading Logs and advertisements using facts and opinions.
